Hyster-Yale Group leases tech and testing space at Intersect East

Intersect East, the 19-acre downtown Greenville Innovation Hub privately developed by Elliott Sidewalk Communities (ESC), has named its first corporate tenant: Hyster-Yale Group, a globally integrated manufacturer of lift trucks and technology solutions, marketed primarily under the Hyster® and Yale® brand names.

Hyster-Yale is leasing 53,400 square feet in the development and will consolidate its Global Emerging and Technology division into the project. The move will bring over 120 jobs to downtown Greenville, and the division plans to be fully operable in the Intersect East location by the end of 2024, after building renovations and investment by ESC and Hyster-Yale.

East Carolina University, in collaboration with ESC, initiated the land availability for the 19-acre Intersect East campus. “We welcome Hyster-Yale to the Intersect East location and look forward to continuing to work with them and other industry and corporate partners to make Greenville a top destination for innovation,” said ECU Chancellor Philip Rogers.

“We are extremely excited to attract a world class tenant like this to our project and the downtown Greenville core. We are thrilled to count Hyster-Yale among those champion businesses who call Greenville, and now Intersect East, their home,” said Evan Morville, president of Elliott Sidewalk Communities. Tim Elliott of ESC added, “Our team and ECU have positioned innovation as the focal point of the development, and Hyster-Yale is among the most innovative materials handling corporations in the world. Assisting companies in their efforts to become and remain competitive is what this project is all about.”

The new Hyster-Yale technology center seeks to “collaborate with ECU and others to develop and deploy new materials handling technologies used in our products around the world,” said Steven LaFevers, vice president of Global Emerging Technologies for Hyster-Yale. The new tech center will be located within the industrial section of Intersect East, which is located on six acres west of Clark Street between 10th and 12th streets. “Collaborating on research with ECU compels us to think about a downtown campus. Top personnel always keep us competitive, and therefore the location gives us the opportunity to incubate quality talent from the university.”

In addition to the technology center, Hyster-Yale operates its division headquarters, warehouse development center and warehouse lift truck manufacturing facility in Greenville, employing over 1,400 associates locally and 8,300 globally.
