ECU/Loessin Playhouse announces 2023-24 season
The ECU/Loessin Playhouse in the East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance has announced its 2023-24 season, which will kick off in September with the annual fall dance concert.
“I’m very excited to announce our new season for ECU/Loessin Playhouse for 2023-2024,” said Jayme Klinger Host, director of the School of Theatre and Dance and artistic director of ECU/Loessin Playhouse. “We are featuring our fall dance concert, Shakespeare’s classic, ‘The Winter’s Tale,’ and critically acclaimed productions like ‘Once on this Island,’ (Stephen) Sondheim’s ‘Company,’ and comical play, ‘The Play that Goes Wrong.’
“In addition to these outstanding productions, we are thrilled to offer additional performances that will showcase the immense depth and breadth of talent and creativity present within our school,” Host said. “‘The Last Firefly,’ ‘Dance@Wright’ and the Theatre for New Audience production of ‘Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical’ will take place in Wright Auditorium this year. These three productions promise to dazzle audiences with their artistry, sheer energy and creativity.”
The dates and performances planned in Messick Theatre Arts Center are:
- Sept. 27-Oct. 1 – Fall Dance 2023
- Oct. 18-22 – Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale”
- Nov. 15-19 – “Once on This Island”
- Feb. 21-25 – “Company: A Musical Comedy”
- April 17-21 – “The Play That Goes Wrong”
Additional performances scheduled at Wright Auditorium are:
- Dec. 1 – “The Last Firefly”
- March 1-2 – “Dance @ Wright”
- March 22 – “Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical”
“Overall, we are eager to share our artistic vision and the hard work of our dedicated students, faculty and staff with our audiences during our new 2023-24 ECU/Loessin Playhouse season,” Host said.
