ECU recognized for student achievement by Broadcast Education Association
The creative work of students in the East Carolina University School of Art and Design and the School of Communication has been recognized in an inaugural ranking by the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).
The rankings are based on the results from the 2022 BEA Festival of Media Arts, an international digital media and broadcast competition.
Over the last five years, more than 5,000 student creative works have been submitted from more than 300 BEA-member institutions around the globe. Entries go through a blind-juried review in the following competitions: audio, documentary, film and video, interactive multimedia and emerging technologies, news, scriptwriting and sports.
The rankings are based on an evaluation of the quality and consistency of students’ creative works produced at one institution compared to those at other institutions over the past five years.
ECU placed 75th overall for combined achievement across the multiple media creative disciplines that were judged.
The festival winners represent approximately the top 20% of entries. The rankings take into account both the quantity and quality of student works. While the BEA honors outstanding achievements of both faculty and students, the rankings focus solely on student accomplishments.
In addition to ECU’s overall ranking, associate professor of communication Glenn T. Hubbard received a BEA Award of Excellence in the Sound Engineering and Design category for his work titled “70s.”
