Founders Week 2022 – March 2022

Fellow Pirates,

In March 1907 with the approval of the North Carolina General Assembly, East Carolina Teachers Training School was chartered. Since our founding, ECU has stood as a beacon of hope and opportunity for generations of teachers, entrepreneurs, artists, nurses, doctors, dentists and so many others. Throughout our history, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to our region and our mission of student success, public service and regional transformation.

While all Pirates should be proud of the impact East Carolina University has had over the years, we should also feel tremendous anticipation about the future — a future not without challenges but also abundant opportunities. The launch of ECU Health will transform health care in eastern North Carolina, and the development of Intersect East will serve as a hub of innovation and economic development. These are just two examples of how ECU is living our mission and forging the future of North Carolina.

This year we will celebrate the university’s 115 years during Founders Week, March 20–26, 2022. Across campus and online, we will honor ECU’s history and impacts on our region, state and beyond as we plan for future opportunities. As we approach Founders Week, I hope you join me in reflecting on our past and preparing ourselves to embrace the future of East Carolina University.

Go Pirates!
