ECU to host Fall Open House for prospective students, families
After hosting a virtual event last year, East Carolina University will welcome prospective students and their families to campus this weekend for Fall Open House.
“We’re really excited about hosting this event in person because we think the best way for a prospective student to really get an idea of the culture of ECU is to actually walk on our sidewalks, go inside our buildings and meet, in person, our students our faculty and our staff,” said Stephanie Whaley, director of undergraduate admissions. “It will begin with check-in around 8 a.m., and it is going to include a wide variety of activities for prospective students to get to know ECU better, to learn everything they ever wanted to know about ECU.”
After checking in, visitors will attend an academic and college resource fair with representatives from academic departments as well as student services and campus resources.
“This is their chance to mingle, interact and ask questions about all of our programs and services,” Whaley said.
Participants will also be able to embark on campus tours, visit Joyner Library and explore the Main Campus Student Center.
Breakout presentations will provide more detailed information on admissions and financial aid, choosing a major, campus living, transfer and Pirate Promise enrollment, and the Honors College.
“We’re also offering a parent panel, specifically for parents to connect with parents of currently enrolled students,” Whaley said.
After lunch, many departments, colleges and facilities will offer their own open house-style events for visitors interested in specific programs and services.
“This event is not just for high school seniors — although we want lots of high school seniors,” Whaley said. “It is really for any prospective student, whether they’re at a community college or an adult student who’s … thinking of coming back. Or that really proactive high school sophomore or junior that wants to get a head start.
“We want to encourage anyone interested in learning more about ECU to come for a visit.”
