COVID-19 Moderna Vaccine Availability: April 14 and 16

ECU is now offering the Moderna vaccine at its clinic beginning tomorrow, April 14.

Students, faculty, staff and members of the community who are 18 and older can sign up for an appointment by visiting studenthealth.ecu.edu/covid/. Appointments are encouraged but walk -ins are welcome.

ECU’s clinic location is in the Croatan on main campus. This week the clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 and Friday, April 16.

Beginning next week, new clinic hours will begin Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Students who have received vaccines from clinics not affiliated with ECU including Vidant Health and pharmacies must upload a copy of their vaccination card to My Pirate Chart, ECU.medicatconnect.com/.

Previously, ECU was provided Johnson & Johnson vaccines to distribute at our clinics. Out of an abundance of caution the CDC and FDA recommended a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine.

As of April 12, more than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S. with six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine. All six cases occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred six to 13 days after vaccination.

Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare. People who have received the J&J vaccine and develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider.

Recognition of these events in a timely manner is a sign of our vaccine safety surveillance system working. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
