Block B Housing Contract Now Available
Single rooms available at standard rate
Since ECU’s move to online instruction, approximately 700 students have made the decision to continue living on campus for the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year. Those students now reside in single rooms in five residence halls on College Hill: Gateway East and West, Jones, Scott and Tyler.
The move to single rooms has greatly enhanced the ability for students to remain safe. In the past seven days, only two on-campus students have tested positive for COVID-19.
With the second block of 8-week classes (Block B) fast approaching, the university has the capacity to offer about 400 students, that previously moved out of the halls earlier this fall, the opportunity to come back and live on campus for the remainder of the fall semester.
Students choosing to return to campus housing for Block B will be assigned to a single room in the College Hill Neighborhood. Students will only be charged the standard room rate prorated for the remaining nine weeks of the fall semester.
Those students would have the opportunity to remain in that room during the spring semester at a single room rate. Students returning to campus will move into their on-campus room the weekend of Sept. 26-27 in advance of the start of Block B. Additional details will be sent to the student’s ECU email accounts.
As part of our continuing effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, students wishing to return to campus for Block B will be required to be tested for COVID-19 between Sept. 21-24 before returning to campus.
Since late August, we have been pleased to see a significant reduction in the number of positive COVID-19 cases within the residence halls. In the event a student living on campus tests positive, College Hill Suites is available to temporarily house students during quarantine/isolation.
ECU does not plan to close the residence halls this academic year or expect students living on campus this fall to have to leave the residence halls for the remainder of this academic year. Residents who choose to remain in the same room for the spring semester will be able to leave their room intact during the winter break and keep their key/fob. The halls will close for the winter break on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020 as originally scheduled.
Announced in early September, the latest phase of North Carolina’s reopening has allowed for increased activity on campus, including the Student Rec Center and pool opening to students with limited hours. Joyner Library and the Dowdy Student Stores also remain open, as do several retail dining options in the Main Campus Student Center.
Within the residence halls, our coordinators continue to plan programs while adhering to established safety standards, including wearing face masks and social distancing.
We hope that you decide to come back to campus to experience being a Pirate firsthand while living in the residence halls. We are here for you!
