Update on Housing Spring 2020 Move-Out

We are sending this to all students, but it pertains to students that have left items in their rooms. If you have fully moved out and returned your keys from your spring 2020 assigned room, you may disregard this information.

As you are aware, we ended the move out process in March to remain consistent with North Carolina Stay-In-Place directives. We recently received updated guidance that we can now allow students to return to campus to retrieve their belongings — if the University and students practice social distancing guidelines as required under the Governor’s Executive Order.

As such, please visit this link by May 1 to let us know whether you plan to:

  • Sign up for a checkout window between May 7 and May 14, 2020
  • Inform us that you have already moved out and that any remaining items should be donated.

If you choose to return to move out your remaining belongings, your building fob will be activated during your appointment window. After you remove all of your belongings, we ask you drop your keys/fob in an envelope (do not lick the envelope, there will be TAPE there) in the express checkout box for your building at the Neighborhood Service Office, with your name, residence hall, room number, and banner ID. You can bring/prepare this envelope in advance to speed your departure. Please tape it shut when keys are dropped off. DO NOT LICK TO SEAL THE ENVELOPE.

If you moved your belongings out but have not returned your keys:

Room keys and fobs must be mailed in a bubble-wrapped envelope (tracking highly recommended) post-marked by May 15, 2020. Residents can mail to West End/ CW NSO, 100 Jones Hall, Greenville, NC 27858. Residents who do not turn in keys will be billed $120 for a lock change and $30 for a fob replacement.

As stated above, we must manage this process in compliance with the social distancing guidelines as required under the Governor’s Executive Order. To this end, a series of procedures will be put in place to encourage a responsible move out process that promotes social distancing, including:

  • The checkout appointments will be 3 hours long and scheduled in a manner that limits the number of appointments available on each floor during each window.
  • The common “high touch” areas (including elevator buttons and exterior door handles) will be cleaned as often as possible each day during this process.
  • The public restrooms on main floors will be cleaned and stocked regularly for hand washing.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided in lobby areas, where possible.
  • There will be no overnight occupancy of student rooms during this process.

While you are here on campus gathering your belongings, we ask that you:

  • Do not come back to campus if you have been or are ill, and do not bring anyone who has been or is ill with you.
  • This includes any of the following symptoms identified by the CDC: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell.
  • Coordinate separate move out times from roommates/suitemates.
  • Bring as few people as possible to assist you with the move out process.
  • Wear masks and encourage those who assist you to do the same (the University cannot provide these as we are conserving our limited supply for university staff).
  • Restrict elevator usage to one resident/family/group at a time.
  • Wash your hands frequently and encourage those who assist you to do the same.

Please note that our ability to continue this process will be guided by everyone’s cooperation with these safety guidelines so please understand that those who do not comply may be asked to leave.

Should you have questions, please call 252-328-4663 during business hours or email housing@ecu.edu.

We appreciate your continued cooperation as we work to keep our campus as safe and healthy as possible.
