Campus Operations reduction in mandatory on-campus staff

Campus Community,

Based on guidance from the University of North Carolina System Office to reduce the on-campus presence of mandatory staff and increase social distancing in response to COVID 19, Campus Operations shall be transitioning to Emergency Operations in order to increase social distancing to protect our staff and others during this period.

Effective April 1, 2020:

Facilities Services Staffing for both the Main Campus and the Health Science Campus will be reduced significantly.  A Rapid Response Team (RRT) will be on campus to respond to emergencies and maintain operations of essential equipment and buildings, Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.  Staff will continue to be on call during non-business hours to respond to emergencies.

The Facilities Service Center and HSC Central Plant offices shall be closed to walk in visitors.  Our Business Support staff will be working from home and continue to support operations from 8-5, Monday thru Friday remotely.

Housekeeping Services will also be reduced to a minimum level that will support the remaining students residing on-campus and the clinical operations of the Health Science Campus.  All other buildings are essentially shutdown and Housekeeping Services will not be provided to those facilities that are not operational during this period.  We understand that some areas have a few mandatory employees that must be on campus, but they should be few.  For those coming to campus, we ask that any trash that could present a pest problem be discarded in a central location in the buildings and not remain in the offices.  We will have occasional building inspections to detect any problems.

Campus Operations will continue to support the essential operations and the critical mission of the both Campuses during this period.  We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this plan.

Respectfully,

-William Bagnell, Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations
