ECU Career Services to host two career fairs for students and alumni
East Carolina University Career Services has scheduled two career fairs on Feb. 20 at the Greenville Convention Center. The Job and Internship Fair for all majors will be from 8:30-11:30 a.m., followed by the Engineering and Technology Career Fair from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
The Job and Internship Fair is open to students of all majors and will feature more than 100 companies looking to hire both ECU students and alumni.
The Engineering and Technology Career Fair is open to all students interested in pursuing jobs and internships with organizations having engineering and technology hiring needs, with more than 150 local and national participants.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with nationally recognized employers recruiting for internships, and part-time and full-time positions while also building strong connections and securing interviews with employers from a variety of industries including science, technology, business, government, construction and health care.
Of the employers participating in ECU’s fall 2019 career fairs, 70% were actively recruiting for internship or co-op opportunities.
“I frequently meet with employers looking to hire ECU graduates and I ask what is most important when considering a candidate for a full-time position,” said Tom Halasz, director of ECU Career Services. “The overwhelming response is experience and they most often specifically cite internship or co-op experience.”
ECU has more than 5,000 jobs and over 2,000 internships posted in the Handshake system for students to explore. Many of the employers posting jobs in Handshake also attend career fairs to recruit for internships, co-ops and full-time opportunities.
“We are excited about all the opportunities available to ECU students and alumni and optimistic for the future,” said Halasz. “It is never too early for a student to seek an internship or co-op. Meeting with a career services counselor is a good first step to learn about the most effective strategies to find and secure an internship or co-op.”
In fall 2019, ECU launched The Fairs App, which is designed to enhance the student and recruiter experience by allowing up-to-date information to be shared before and during on campus events, including both career fairs. The Fairs App is available for Apple and Android devices as well as online.
Participating companies at the upcoming career fairs include Enterprise, Hyster-Yale, Cisco, NetApp, Kohl’s, CIA, e-Emphasys Technologies, CommScope, Motion Industries, Northwestern Mutual, Professional Sports Publications, Target and more.
