ECU Foundation Board of Directors elects new members
The East Carolina University Foundation approved four new members to join its board of directors in September. The elected members serve four-year terms that will end in June 2023.
The new members are Mary Ann Best, John R. May, Anthony W. Patterson and Lynn Schubert. They will help the ECU Foundation promote, strengthen and benefit the university through the solicitation, management and distribution of private gifts.

“We are pleased to welcome our new members to the ECU Foundation Board. The success of the ECU Foundation is a result of the commitment and hard work of its members and staff,” said Christopher Dyba, vice chancellor for university advancement and president of the ECU Foundation. “I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful board members over the years and I am excited for the knowledge and experiences Mary Ann, John, Anthony and Lynn will bring to the table.”
Best is a senior managing director and a senior vice president at Bernstein Private Wealth Management in Washington, D.C. Previously, Best was an executive director and senior banker at JP Morgan Private Bank and was responsible for providing banking services and wealth management strategies to individuals, families and foundations. She graduated from ECU in 1984 with a degree in industrial technology.
Mayis the founder and managing partner of CORE Industrial Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm that invests in manufacturing and industrial technology. Prior to founding CORE, May spent 16 years with The Blackstone Group and H.I.G. Capital and served as a president and CEO of six companies. He graduated from ECU with a business degree in 1993.
Patterson is the CEO of Indigo Holdings, LLC, a private equity investment firm, and managing partner of several affiliates. A native of Sanford, Patterson received his business degree from ECU in 1985. He also serves on the Business Advisory Council for the College of Business and is a past member of the Board of Visitors.
Schubert is the retired president of the Surety & Fidelity Association of America, a trade association of more than 425 insurance companies. Schubert became president of the SFAA in 1996 and was the first woman to head a national insurance trade association. She served in that role for 22 years. Schubert is a 1977 alumna of the ECU College of Business.
