SWEDEN/DENMARK

Exploring early childhood programs abroad

Nine East Carolina University students explored how the lives of individuals, families and communities in Sweden and Denmark are similar and different when compared with those in the U.S.

These two countries were chosen in part because of their innovative early childhood programs and practices that are not found in the U.S., such as a forest kindergarten and a non-gender-binary early childhood center. The forest kindergarten was a highlight for students. Another highlight was having dinner with a local family in Copenhagen.
