Bring your popcorn, drinks and a blanket or chair and enjoy the first of four planned outdoor movies on the big screen at East Carolina University.
“Monsters, Inc.” will be shown on the 24-by-42-foot Pirate Vision digital screen at the main campus student center on Saturday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. The center is on 10th Street near Joyner Library.
The Summer Movies on the Lawn series is free and open to the public. Other showings planned are “Trolls” on June 22, “Mary Poppins Returns” on June 29 and “The Secret Life of Pets” on July 13. All movies will start at 7:30 p.m.
ECU is looking forward to providing a new event and sharing the student center with the greater Greenville community, said Erik J. Kneubuehl, associate vice chancellor of student involvement and leadership, which is sponsoring the series.
“As Greenville and Uptown continues to grow, we wanted to complement the adult food and entertainment choices with an affordable, family-friendly option,” he said.
Movies will be shown rain or shine. Visitors can park for $1 an hour in the new ECU parking deck next to the center. Pets must be leashed, and no alcohol is allowed.
Kneubuehl and the directors of Campus Recreation and Wellness, Student Activities and Organizations, Greek Life, Intercultural Affairs and Student Centers – all in the Division of Student Affairs – had the idea to offer programming for the community using the new student center and Pirate Vision.
They asked for staff recommendations for family-friendly films that would appeal to a wide range of ages in choosing the titles.
“A student center is considered the living room of a campus,” Kneubuehl said. “The new center is Pirate Nation’s new home and that nation includes the greater ECU community.”
The movie screen is on the back side of the student center near Joyner Library. The screen is not visible from 10th Street.
