Michelle C. DeVille, MPA has been named chief integrity officer and HIPAA privacy and security officer for East Carolina University effective May 1, 2019. DeVille has been serving as interim chief integrity officer since February 2018 and previously served as the director and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) security officer for the Office of Institutional Integrity in the Division of Health Sciences.
In her role as chief integrity officer, DeVille will serve as the chief administrator for the Office of Institutional Integrity and will continue the development, oversight and administration of successful compliance solutions for key compliance activities and regulations in the Division of Health Sciences.
As ECU’s HIPAA privacy and security officer, her service will include identifying the university’s HIPAA regulatory compliance obligations, serving as the HIPAA consultant to the university and providing leadership on specific regulatory issues related to HIPAA requirements.
DeVille completed her master’s in public administration at ECU. In addition, she holds certifications in health care compliance and health care privacy compliance.
DeVille has nearly 20 years of regulatory experience that encompasses the pharmaceutical, hospice, college health, outpatient and inpatient settings including service as compliance specialist at ECU’s School of Dental Medicine, risk manager in ECU Student Health Services, risk analyst for Vidant Health’s Office of Legal Affairs and Risk Management and HIPAA security officer for ECU.
