ECU Physicians nurse achieves certification in multiple sclerosis care

A nurse manager with ECU Physicians has been named a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Nurse by the Multiple Sclerosis Nurses International Certification Board.
Lovie A. Powers earned the designation for her expertise in the nursing care of patients with multiple sclerosis and their families. Powers has worked for ECU Physicians Neurology (formerly East Carolina Neurology) nearly 20 years, caring for patients from across eastern North Carolina.
“We are very grateful to have Ms. Powers work as an integral part of the team caring for our patients afflicted with multiple sclerosis,” said ECU neurologist Dr. Christine Tangredi.
“She continues training each year to ensure she remains knowledgeable of the latest multiple sclerosis treatments,” Tangredi said. “Her competency regarding infusions and medications allows our clinic to provide the latest in comprehensive care for our patients. Treatments for multiple sclerosis continue to change rapidly, and we need nurses like Ms. Powers who are willing to educate themselves and the staff regarding these changes.”
Powers received her associate degree in nursing from Pitt Community College. She worked as a pediatric nurse for Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center) before joining ECU in 2000. She has served as nurse manager for ECU Physicians Neurology since 2008.
