ECU to hold ribbon cutting ceremony for Main Campus Student Center
East Carolina University will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new Main Campus Student Center at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7.
The Main Campus Student Center is a 220,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that will become the new front door to ECU’s campus and serve as the living room for students, faculty, staff and alumni on ECU’s main campus. The project also includes a 720-space parking deck and a new chiller plant.
Many student-focused departments and organizations will move into the new student center, including the Student Government Association, Student Activities and Organizations, the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, the Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center, the Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement, Greek Life, and the new ECU Women & Gender Office. The student center also has amazing spaces such as a black box theater, a 14,000-square-foot ballroom, and a 24-by-42-foot outdoor Pirate Vision digital screen. The Student Center is now the new home to Dowdy Student Stores.
Six dining options will also be available in the student center by the end of January. While the facility will open Monday, more time is needed for construction, inspections and brand-specific training in the dining service areas.
The Main Campus Student Center is part of the $170 million ECU Student Centers Project, which included the Health Sciences Campus Student Center that opened in May 2017.
