Graduate programs earn high marks in national ranking

Graduate programs in biology, business, education, medicine, nursing, public administration and social work at East Carolina University have been recognized among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report.
The new 2019 Best Graduate Programs were announced March 20.
ECU’s Brody School of Medicine was ranked 32^nd in the nation in primary care. Nursing was ranked 112^th for its master’s degree program and 101^st for its doctorate of nursing program. Education was ranked 164^th. The part-time MBA program was ranked 201^st.
ECU’s master of public administration, listed under public affairs in the annual guide, ranked 135^th and tied with 19 other schools. Social work was tied with 26 other schools and ranked 147^th. Biology, listed under biological sciences, ranked 175^th and tied with 14 other schools.
The ranking methodology varies by discipline but considers a variety of factors including peer assessment, acceptance rates, standardized test scores and grade point averages of incoming students as well as faculty resources and research activity.
Also included in the listings are ECU graduate programs that were published in previous years but are not new rankings:
Audiology, 53^rd; clinical psychology, 143^rd; fine arts, 104^th; library science, 43^rd; nursing-anesthesia, 29^th; nursing-midwifery, 15^th; occupational therapy, 88^th; physician assistant studies, 70^th; physical therapy, 46^th; speech-language pathology, 92^nd; and rehabilitation counseling, 18^th.
