Dance @ Wright hits the main stage
Expect a fun and diverse lineup of ballet, jazz, tap, modern and contemporary dance as Dance @ Wright hits the main stage at East Carolina University.
“Our dancers go through hours of training every day followed by more hours of rehearsal every night. When our dancers hit the stage you are seeing all of that hard work infused with every drop of passion they have in their hearts for this art form,” said John Dixon, production coordinator.
“They are incredible young artists and I look forward to hearing the audiences respond to the gorgeous dancing they are going to see on stage,” he said.
Greenville native Kennedy Hill, a senior majoring in dance education, will be performing. After graduation, she plans to move to New York to attend The Ailey School independent study program to continue her dance training.
“For a show like Dance @ Wright, an incredible amount of time goes into putting on the production,” Hill said. “From the preparation of the choreographers creating movement to the long hours of rehearsals where dancers are learning and performing material throughout the week.”
Senior dance performance major Noëlle Davé wanted to get involved with Dance @ Wright, which has impressed and inspired her every year.
“It’s a well-rounded show with incredible choreography and dancers,” Davé said. “I think it’s a great show to see whether you’re a dancer or not. Anyone can enjoy it just as much.”
Dancing since the age of 4, Davé plans to move to New York after graduation to pursue becoming a professional dancer.
Senior dance performance major Mary Bird said she always looks forward to being a performer in Dance @ Wright because “it is a fun way to kick off the year with a bang.” A Fuquay-Varina native, Bird plans to find a modern dance company to call home for a few years after graduation.
Since the fall semester of 2014, this performance has been highlighting works from faculty, guest artists and student performers.
“This is our fourth dance production in Wright Auditorium,” Dixon said. “We couldn’t be happier to be able to present our works in such a classic performance venue.”
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Oct 27, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and 2 p.m. Oct 29. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for ECU students and youth. Call 252-328-6829, email theatre@ecu.edu or visit www.ecu.edu/cs-cfac/theatredance/Playhouse.cfm for more information.
