EARTH DAY AT ECU
Hands-on activities engage visitors in biodiversity
Young visitors enjoyed hands-on science activities at East Carolina University April 21 as part of Earth Day celebrations. The Earth Day Expo included live animals and plants, interactive demonstrations and lab work that kept children engaged in topics related to biodiversity.
Among the popular activities at the expo were examining live frogs, viewing 3-D art, digging for fossils, planting seeds and building marshmallow catapults.
Additional events celebrating Earth Day at ECU included a sustainability fair and an evening presentation by author Amy Stewart, best-selling author of “The Drunken Botanist,” “Wicked Plants,” “Wicked Bugs” and “Flower Confidential.” Stewart’s publications focus on positive and negative impacts of the natural world on people.
