EC Scholars host 5K fundraiser

East Carolina University’s EC Scholars are hosting a Schoolhouse Rock n’ Run 5K from 2 – 4 p.m. March 23 at the North Recreational Complex.

Proceeds will benefit the Pitt County Educational Foundation, which supports local public school teachers and students.

All four classes of EC Scholars joined in to plan and carry out the fundraising event to exemplify the ECU mission of service and leadership. They choose the Pitt County Educational Foundation because it offers grants for innovative and exciting ways for enhancing student learning.

The event will kick off with a Kids’ Dash, followed by the 5K at 2:30 p.m. Additional activities for children will include beach volleyball, kickball, corn hole, crafts and face painting.

Participation fees are $15 for adults, $10 for students in middle school through college (with an ID) and $2 for children 11 and under who are participating in the Kids’ Dash. Registration is open through start time on race day and is available at http://www.runtheeast.com/calendardetail.php?id=312.
