East Carolina University students and staff are being asked to avoid traveling and parking on Eighth Street between Cotanche and Evans streets. The area to avoid is adjacent to the construction site for the new complex that is replacing Georgetowne Square, according to the city of Greenville and East Carolina University.

Traffic flow on Eighth Street has changed to accommodate construction deliveries for that project, officials said. As part of that change, parking is no longer available on the north side of the street. Parking on the south side is still available.

The city of Greenville has asked for voluntary cooperation from students and staff in hopes of not having to issue citations and tow vehicles.

When vehicles travel incorrectly on this street and park in areas restricted for construction deliveries, those deliveries have to be staged on Evans Street, city officials report, creating a traffic hazard and obstruction.
