Athlete, leader to speak at ECU

Mo Isom

 Mo Isom

All-American athlete Mo Isom will present “Living Boldly” at 5:30 p.m. March 26 in Wright Auditorium at East Carolina University.

Isom will speak on leadership principles, overcoming adversity, developing courage and pushing beyond barriers.

She speaks from personal experiences that have included success and tragedy. A communications major at Louisiana State University, Isom was an award-winning goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, featured in the 2008 issue of Sports Illustrated. While enjoying success as a college athlete, she also endured a near fatal automobile accident, an ongoing eating disorder and her father’s suicide.

Isom was the first female to try out for a Southeastern Conference Division I men’s football team when she set her sites on the role of place kicker for LSU’s nationally-ranked football team. She tried out in spring and fall 2012 but failed to make the team.

Isom has performed more than 2,200 volunteer service hours that include visits to Uganda and Costa Rica.

She lives in Atlanta. Her television appearances include the Christian Broadcasting Network, ESPN, Fox Sports, HLN and Ellen.

ECU’s Campus Living, Greek Life, Student Activities Board, Campus Recreation and Wellness, Recreation and Leisure Studies majors and the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
