ECU Neuroscience Symposium to be Oct. 29

GREENVILLE, N.C.   (Oct. 17, 2013)   —   Research on restless legs syndrome, traumatic brain injury and more are among the topics to be discussed at the 15th annual East Carolina University Neuroscience Symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 29. 

The daylong event will be at the East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina University, 115 Heart Drive, Greenville. It’s open to the public. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Opening remarks are at 11:45 a.m., the keynote address is at noon and the event lasts until 5 p.m.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Richard Allen, a psychologist and associate professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins University. His talk is titled “Brain Iron Relation to Dopamine and Glutamate in Restless Legs Syndrome.” 

The program is presented by the Eastern Carolina chapter of the Society for Neuroscience with support from the SFN Distinguished Traveling Scientist Award Program and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. The John and Harriet Wooten Foundation provides financial support for a student award in the area of Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases research. 

The event is $10 for ECU faculty, ECU staff and the public and $5 for students and medical residents. The cost includes a morning brunch and other refreshments.
