East Carolina University will host the sixth annual Peace.Love.Pirates.Cure cancer awareness fair from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Student Recreation Center on campus. The event is free and open to ECU faculty, staff and students.

The event promotes cancer awareness and knowledge by providing information tailored to helping attendees live healthy, cancer free lives. Informational booths will focus on reducing the risks of acquiring cancer, while providing details on skin, breast, cervical, testicular, lung and prostate cancers.

“Cancer is something that impacts every person on our campus in one way or another,” said Georgia Childs, associate director for Campus Wellness.  “A majority of our students have someone in their family who has cancer or maybe even died from cancer.  Peace.Love.Pirates.Cure is a way to address a difficult topic and share some preventative measures.”

Participants can expect healthy snacks, T-shirts and other giveaways.

Sponsors include ECU Campus Recreation & Wellness, Student Health Services, the Department of Health Education and Promotion, ECU Physicians, Leo Jenkins Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, Colleges Against Cancer, Vidant Health and the Healthy PIRATES student organization.
