Feb. 28 event aimed at enhancing student understanding of philanthropy

The East Carolina University Office of Annual Giving will host the first Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Wright Plaza.

The event is designed to education students on the importance of giving back and supporting their university. Students may make a gift to the Student Memorial energency fund. They will also receive information on how private donor dollars make a difference for their education.

Doug Smith, interim director of Annual Giving, said students participate in activities daily that make a difference at the university. “They volunteer their time to fulfill our mission of service. They share their talents to enrich our culture,” he said.  By sharing their dollars, he said, “students have the opportunity to further invest in their ECU experience. …

“Regardless of the size of their gift, we want students to know they are making a difference,” Smith said.

The event is part of an inititiave developed by CASE Affiliated Student Advancement Programs to increase student understanding of philanthropy and grow engagement on campus.
