Servant-leadership scholar to address ECU forum

An internationally known scholar in servant-leadership will address the 2012 Leadership Forum, scheduled for Oct. 25 – 26 at East Carolina University.

Larry C. Spears will deliver the keynote address Oct. 25, following a 6 p.m. dinner in the atrium of the ECU Heart Institute.

Spears is the inaugural servant leadership scholar at Gonzaga University and president/chief executive officer of the Larry C. Spears Center for Servant-Leadership. He served for 17 years as president and CEO of the Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership. Greenleaf coined the phrase “servant-leadership” in a 1970 essay.

The forum theme is “Servant Leadership: A Natural Fit for ECU.” Faculty and staff will present best practices for helping ECU achieve its vision of becoming the Leadership University.

Registration begins Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the ECU Heart Institute and at 8 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Mendenhall Student Center Great Rooms. Lunch will be served on Friday.

The forum is sponsored by the Office of the Leadership Collaborative, housed under the Office of the Provost.
