Convocations to begin Friday

Seventy-three medical students will receive their degrees at the annual convocation of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University on Friday.

The convocation begins at 5 p.m. in Wright Auditorium on the ECU campus.

Dr. Harry Adams, a clinical professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at ECU, will be the convocation speaker. John Yoon, class president, will also give remarks, and Dennis Bradley Langston will give the class response.

Four doctoral students have also completed their studies and will be graduating.

At 2 p.m. Friday, the Department of Public Health will hold a convocation in the Brody Auditorium for its 44 graduates.

On Thursday, the Brody School of Medicine will hold its annual awards day at 3 p.m. in the Brody Auditorium.

Also in the ECU Division of Health Sciences, the College of Allied Health Sciences will hold its convocation at noon Saturday in Minges Coliseum. The college will graduate 239 students. Of those, 143 will receive bachelor’s degrees, 68 will receive master’s degrees, and 27 will receive doctorates in physical therapy and one will receive a doctorate in communication sciences and disorders. The speaker will be James R. Menke, military research liaison for Operation Re-entry North Carolina.

The College of Nursing convocation will be at noon Saturday in Wright Auditorium. The college will graduate 196 students: 153 bachelor’s students, 42 master’s students, and one student will receive a post-master’s certificate.

Commencement exercises for all ECU graduates will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Vidant Health Chief Executive Officer Dave McRae will deliver the commencement address. Vidant is the primary teaching facility for the Brody School of Medicine.
