Racers raise funds during annual Hamstring Hustle
An early Saturday morning rain did not stop a crowd of walkers and racers determined to complete the 18th Annual Hamstring Hustle 5K Run/Walk on March 31. ECU medical student Sebastian DeMarco crossed the finish line first with a time of 18 minutes, 50 seconds, making this his second straight win. The top female finisher was first-year medical student Brittany Walsh with a time of 21:17.
The event invited participants of all ages to join in the fun, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the ECU Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children achieve a healthy weight and improve their nutrition. The race wound through the Lynndale neighborhood in Greenville.
The event was organized by the Medical Student Council at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
