Vascular imaging center receives reaccreditation
The Vascular Imaging Center at the East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina University has received national reaccreditation.
The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories has granted a three-year accreditation to the center.
Accreditation by ICAVL means the center has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. ICAVL grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process. The center has been accredited since 1996.
The Vascular Imaging Center performs multiple noninvasive vascular exams that evaluate the carotid artery and abdominal and extremity blood vessels. Such tests provide information for early detection and maintenance of vascular disease that could lead to stroke, aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease or other vascular disorders.
Dr. William M. Bogey Jr., professor of vascular surgery at ECU, serves as the medical director of the center. Pam Joyner, a registered vascular technologist and registered diagnostic medical sonographer, is technical director. The center is part of ECU Physicians, the group medical practice of the Brody School of Medicine.
