ECU Campus Dining and Kellogg’s team up to fight hunger in central and eastern North Carolina

East Carolina University Dining Services and Kellogg’s Food Away From Home are teaming up for one month to donate cereal to help fight hunger.

A campus dining program at ECU will help provide cereal to those in need.

A bowl of Kellogg’s cereal will be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for every bowl of Kellogg’s cereal eaten by students on campus from Nov. 7 through Dec. 7.  Officials with the two groups anticipate approximately 6,400 servings of cereal should be donated.
“ECU’s Campus Dining is very proud to partner with Kellogg’s for this project,” said William McCartney, associate vice chancellor for campus living and dining services at East Carolina University.  “Service is one of our institutional foundations and this project exemplifies our commitment to making a difference in our community.”
More than 500,000 people struggle each day in eastern and central North Carolina counties to provide enough food for their families. Nearly 29 percent of the people served by the food bank are children and another eight percent are elderly. Last year, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina distributed more than 41 million pounds of food to the hungry.
“This effort is part of a growing list of initiatives Campus Dining has launched to make a difference on campus and in the community,” McCartney said. “And as we approach the holiday season, it gives all of us a warm heart to know we can help change lives and fight hunger in our region.”
