ECU event to focus on risk management

Experts will discuss ways organizations can reduce risks and increase opportunities to achieve their goals at an Oct. 12 symposium being held at East Carolina University.

The North Carolina Enterprise Risk Management in Higher Education eSymposium will be 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU, 115 Heart Drive in Greenville. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

The goal of the event is to help those working in higher education learn concepts of enterprise risk management not only as it has emerged in the corporate world, but also as it is practiced in higher education settings. The symposium is aimed at UNC system institutions as well as risk management advisory and consulting firms.

Speakers include Dr. Mark Beasley, Deloitte professor of enterprise risk management and director of the ERM Initiative in the Poole School of Management at N.C. State University; and Dorothy Gjerdrum, executive director of the public sector division at Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services. The event will also feature panel discussions.

On-site attendance is $25, including lunch, and is limited to 250 people. A webcast is also available for other UNC system institutions at a cost of $195 a site.
