ECU welcomes nationally known TV personality Kevin “Food Dude” Roberts to campus on Sept. 13th

East Carolina University welcomes Kevin Roberts to campus on Sept. 13 for a special event, which will include an onstage cooking demonstration, lecture and discussion time with students.
Roberts, known as the “Food Dude,” will be the featured speaker for a program called the “Freshman Fifteen” which will be held at 7 p.m. in Hendrix Theatre.  He has a knack for creativity and healthy eating in the kitchen and enjoys opportunities to share this with college students.
The Food Dude has appeared on more than 100 local and national television shows including The Today Show, CBS’ Early Show and The Food Network and is a regular contributor on Better TV.
In addition to touring college campuses nationwide to talk about healthy eating, he has penned two cookbooks and is owner and executive chef of four sports bar/tavern concepts in San Diego.   His acclaimed cookbook, “Munchies”, is targeted towards the struggle to find quick, simple and tasty alternatives to grab-and-go meals and fast food.
Many of his recipes like west coast wings, tater tot hash and cinnamon roasted grapefruit have the goal of showing there is more to cooking than complex recipes and expensive ingredients.
Roberts, who was also a top ten finalist on The Next Food Network Star will arrive on campus and begin prepping for his lecture and presentation around 5:30 p.m.  He also plans on making visits at some dining locations as well as hosting a meet and greet with students after the event.
This event is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Board, Campus Wellness’ Arrrgh You Eating Well? program and the ECU Residence Hall Association.  For more information about this event, contact Emily McLamb, associate director for Student Involvement at (252) 737-2003 or visit the Student Activities website at www.ecu.edu/sao.
