Cardiac imaging center re-accredited

The Cardiovascular Imaging Center at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University has received national reaccreditation.

The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories has granted an additional three-year accreditation to the nuclear cardiology lab.

The center provides nuclear cardiology imaging, which uses drugs with radioactive chemical tracers to produce images of the heart, evaluating cardiac function and blood flow. As a result, physicians are able to detect the presence of cardiovascular disease and may also discover important information regarding the occurrence of future heart attacks.

Dr. Assad Movahed, professor of medicine, radiology, and cardiovascular sciences serves as the medical director of nuclear cardiology at the Brody School of Medicine. Paula Barnhill is the technical director of nuclear cardiology.

The Cardiovascular Imaging Center is part of ECU Physicians, the group practice of the Brody School of Medicine, and is in the East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU.
