Business of Health Care Symposium set for Oct. 14

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   A symposium on information technology and quality health care will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, in the East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina University.

The 2010 Business of Health Care Symposium will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and is jointly sponsored by the College of Business and the College of Allied Health Sciences. The event is free, but registration is requested by Oct. 7.

The forum will enable health care researchers and practitioners from eastern North Carolina to exchange opinions, ideas and research findings.

The opening keynote speaker will be Stuart James, chief information officer of Pitt County Memorial Hospital, who will discuss “The Evolving Role of Technology in Health Care.”

The luncheon keynote speaker will be Dr. Victor Mbarika, executive director of International Center for IT and Development at Southern University, who will present “NSF-supported Health Care IT Research in Africa.”

Other sessions will be on quality, online research, telemedicine in African countries, electronic medical records, Web-based services and more.
