ECU students chosen for state internships

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Two East Carolina University students are among 100 North Carolina college, graduate and law students who have been selected for 10-week summer internships with state agencies, announced Gov. Bev Perdue. 

Krystal Hicks of Mount Olive, a junior accounting major at ECU, has accepted the Accounting/Finance Transition Planning for the North Carolina History Education Center internship with the Department of Cultural Resoruces’ Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens in New Bern.

Steven Kresch of Apex, a junior political science major at ECU, has accepted the Internal and External Communications internship with the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety’s N.C. National Guard in Raleigh.

The N.C. State Government Internships Program, now in its 39th year, is coordinated by the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office in the Department of Administration. 

This year, the program saw an increase in interest: 714 students from 82 counties and 120 post-secondary institutions applied for internships, up from 586 applications in 2008. Interns were chosen through a competitive selection process. 

The internships begin on May 26 and continue through July 31. Students receive $8.25 an hour.
