Hollywood star Beth Grant to appear in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. —   East Carolina University Distinguished Alumna Beth Grant will discuss her career and the entertainment industry at a free public forum on Tuesday, March 31 at noon at Greenville’s Sheppard Memorial Library.

The actress has appeared on stage, on television, and in more than 70 feature films, including “Little Miss Sunshine” and “No Country for Old Men,” as well as the cult films “Donnie Darko” and “Sordid Lives.”

An active producer and veteran of the stage, Grant got her start behind the scenes at ECU’s School of Theatre and Dance, learning directing, writing, lighting and costuming. She landed her only collegiate leading role as a senior in Romulus Linney’s “Holy Ghost,” then lit out for New York City. Grant’s career skyrocketed after her appearance in the 1988 Oscar-winning film “Rain Man.”

Grant will field questions posed by moderator Jeff Elwell, dean of ECU’s College of Fine Arts and Communication, and take questions from the audience. She’ll screen clips from films representing her career, including upcoming features.

As a hard-working character actress that receives star billing and understands the nuances of the film, television and stage, Grant has much to share with those interested in learning more about the craft of acting.
