Annual white coat ceremony scheduled for Friday

The Class of 2012 of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University will be welcomed officially at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, during the annual white coat ceremony.

The event will be in the auditorium of the Brody Medical Sciences Building.

The 76 members make this class the largest in school history. The 37 men and 39 women in the class range in age from 20 to 32. As usual, they are all North Carolina residents with 32 counties of residence listed. They earned their undergraduate degrees from 29 different colleges and universities with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill having the most graduates, 18. ECU has 13 alumni in the class and North Carolina State University has 12. Several students have multiple degrees from different institutions, and 10 students have graduate degrees.

Dr. David Collier, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Brody School of Medicine and director of the ECU Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center, will address the new medical students about the importance of the white coats they will be receiving and wearing for the first time during the program.
