Novick to lead Medical Foundation of ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Carole Novick, who for six months has served as the interim president of the Medical Foundation of ECU, has been named president of the foundation by Michael “Mickey” Dowdy, East Carolina University vice chancellor for university advancement.

Novick is also associate vice chancellor for health sciences development and alumni affairs. She joined ECU in July 2005 after nine years as the executive director of the Medical Alumni Foundation at State University of New York-Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

“Carole stepped in and provided solid leadership while serving in the interim position,” Dowdy said. “Her almost ten years of prior academic medical center experience at SUNY-Upstate Medical University in Syracuse are serving her well and allow her to address our challenges and opportunities at a faster pace than someone without that background. Her university colleagues and the ECU Medical Foundation board members are delighted to have her in this leadership position.”

Novick had focused on outreach programs for health sciences alumni and implementing fund-raising programs and stewardship in her previous role at the Medical Foundation.

At SUNY, Novick received the President’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service in 2004. Novick has also been active in the Association of American of Medical Colleges, where she was vice chairman for development and alumni affairs.

The Medical Foundation of ECU is a non-profit charitable foundation that supports the ECU Division of Health Sciences, which consists of the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Nursing, the East Carolina Heart Institute and the Laupus Library, through scholarships, research grants, professional development and other means.
