ECU seed award deadline Feb. 15

GREENVILLE, NC   —   The deadline for proposals for East Carolina University’s 2007-08 Research Development Award competition is Feb. 15.

The Division of Research and Graduate Studies will likely offer between 10 and 15 proposals up to $20,000, or up to $35,000 for those requiring PhD student stipends, according to the division’s Vice Chancellor Deirdre Mageean.

“These awards provide seed funds for faculty members to develop preliminary data for a major research grant application to an external sponsor,” Mageean said. “The goal of this program is to increase both the amount of externally supported research at ECU and the number of faculty members with external support.”

Proposals for research in both basic and applied/professional fields are welcome. Funds may be used for small equipment, research expenses, and salaries for students.

Recipients will be notified in April, and the award cycle will begin July 1.

Awards will be offered to proposals that have scientific and technical merit and show promise for external funding. Faculty panels will review proposals.

To apply please see the Call & Forms.(http://www.research2.ecu.edu/06-07 Research Development Grants/2006 Call for Proposals.doc). Eight copies of the proposal must be submitted by 5 p.m. Feb. 15 to the Greenville Centre Suite 1500.
