ECU Reinstates Office of the Dean of Students
GREENVILLE, NC — The Office of the Dean of Students in the Division of Student Life has returned to East Carolina University after a six-year hiatus.
Led by associate vice chancellor Lynn Roeder, the Office of the Dean of Students will serve as a clearinghouse for concerns that pertain to student services.
“There are deans for each college; this is the dean for students,” Roeder said. “This office is a place for people to come to right away to navigate through the system, and get resolutions to their problems.”
Roeder, who has worked at ECU since 1993, was named interim dean of students Nov. 1.

The staff from the Ombudsman’s office is now part of the Office of the Dean of Students.
Roeder said her main goal is to streamline services for students and parents in need of help, and to let people know that the Dean of Students Officeis the place where students can ask for help. She wouldalso like to implement a student honor code and a student grievance policy.
“What I’m excited about is there’s a lot to do,” she said. “It makes me excited we can make a difference in our students’ lives.”
