ECU Police to undergo national accreditation

GREENVILLE, NC   —   The East Carolina University Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment in December as part of the department’s effort to achieve national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

A public information session will be held 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11in room 244 of the Mendenhall Student Center at ECU. Police department employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at the session. Parking is available in the “A” lot behind the building. Parking permits are not required.

Department employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 252-737-1580 on Monday, Dec. 11, between the hours of 1 pm and 4 pm. Comments will be taken by one of the assessment team members.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department’s ability to comply with the CALEA standards. The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
