Clement Hall residents return to rooms
GREENVILLE, NC — The residents of Clement Residence Hall returned to their dorm rooms Thursday afternoon.
At a meeting at nearby Greene Residence Hall, East Carolina University officials provided students with information about their return to the residence hall, which was damaged by a fire in a third-floor dorm room Wednesday afternoon.
Residents of all floors except for the third floor received $40 each from ECU’s Division of Student Life discretionary fund. Because of the amount of damage to rooms on the third floor, residents on that floor received $200 each. Residents of the hall must present a photo I.D. to the Cashier’s Office in order to receive the money.
“Thank you for your calmness during this situation, and for your patience as the staff worked out a solution,” said Garrie Moore, ECU vice chancellor for Student Life. “You did a fantastic job of making a bad situation good.”
The third floor is still closed, although students who live on that floor will be able to retrieve their belongings and be relocated to other rooms in Clement or elsewhere on campus.
Representatives from campus departments, including Housing, the Ombuds office, Counseling Services, Student Health, Environmental Health and Safety and the ECU Police, were present to answer student questions.
The fire temporarily displaced 335 women from the residence hall. One student was treated and released for smoke inhalation at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. All students who live in the dormitory have been accounted for.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Greenville fire officials and ECU police. The ECU information hotline number is 252-328-7668.

ECU HOLDS MEETING FOR CLEMENT HALL STUDENTS
East Carolina University officials will hold a meeting today (March 30) at 2 p.m. for students displaced by a fire at Clement Residence Hall.
The meeting will take place in the lobby of Greene Residence Hall, which is located near the Student Recreation Center and the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center.
Representatives from campus departments, including Housing, the Ombuds office, Counseling Services, Student Health, Environmental Health and Safety and the ECU Police, will be present to answer student questions.

FIRE CLOSES ECU RESIDENCE HALL
A fire displaced approximately 380 East Carolina University students from Clement Residence Hall Wednesday afternoon.

Greenville Fire and Rescue squads responded at 2:42 p.m. to reports of a fire originating in a third-floor room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
