Hamstring Hustle 5K race set for Sunday, April 2

GREENVILLE, N.C.  —   Runners and walkers can lace up their shoes Sunday, April 2 for the 12th annual Hamstring Hustle 5K Run/Walk to benefit the East Carolina University Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center.

The race, presented by the Medical Student Council of Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, will be held in downtown Greenville. Late registration begins at 12:45 p.m. at the Willis Building at the corner of First and Reade streets. The race begins at 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the ECU Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children overcome obesity and improve their nutrition.

Rregistration is $21 and includes a T-shirt, and $8 for those 12 and under with no T-shirt or $21 with a T-shirt.

The race will again feature the ChampionChip system to ensure accurate timing. The ChampionChip is a tiny transponder that attaches to runners’ shoelaces. When a runner wearing a ChampionChip crosses special mats throughout the racecourse, the ChampionChip system sends the runners’ identification and timing information to a central computer for accurate timing.

Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners and to the top three males and females in each age group: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over.
