ECU student continues studies in Iraq

GREENVILLE, NC   (July 26, 2004)   —   Enoc Rodriguez, an Information and Computer Technology major at East Carolina University, was on campus Monday wrapping up details of course work that he will continue while working as a civilian employee in Iraq for the U.S. military.

Rodriguez, a Fayetteville resident who will leave for Iraq July 29, will serve as a computer network administrator for the military.

After graduating from Fayetteville Technical Community College in 2003, Rodriguez was accepted into ECU’s online Information and Computer Technology transfer program, with a concentration in network computing. But his job’s hectic schedule made it impossible for him to keep up with his courses. Rodriguez has since reapplied for the program and, through the support of the Information and Computer Technology staff, will be able to continue his bachelor’s degree while serving in Iraq. This fall, he will take Advanced Routing and Intro to Network Security online.

A $128,000 grant from the UNC System has enabled the Information and Computer Technology department to develop online versions of its four core courses.

ECU Industrial Technology professors Lee Toderick and Paul Kauffmann have worked closely with Rodriguez to ensure he will be able to continue his studies from abroad.
