ECU professor featured on Discovery channel
The Discovery Channel will feature East Carolina University professor Dr. David Long on its “Unsolved History” program scheduled to air Feb. 4 at 9 p.m.
Long, who specializes in Civil War history, will present his theory on the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. “It’s a very controversial piece that will essentially say that Lincoln brought about his own assassination,” said Long, an associate professor in the Department of History.
In his theory, called the Dahlgren Raid Plot, Long states that Lincoln’s assassination was in response to the president’s plans to carry out an assassination attempt on Jefferson Davis, the president of the confederacy.
Some of the taping for the show took place in Quantico, Va., and at the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C. The weekly program applies modern forensic techniques to historical mysteries.
The episode will air Feb. 4, 2004.
