Athletics director search committee set

A 12-member search committee has been appointed to identify candidates for the athletics director position at East Carolina University.

Interim Chancellor Bill Shelton, announcing the committee, said a review of candidates’ credentials will begin Dec. 15. He also said that a position description has been prepared as well as a profile of desired skills and experiences. Mike Hamrick resigned as ECU’s athletics director in August to take a similar position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Nick Floyd is serving as interim athletics director at ECU.

Stephen D. Showfety of Greensboro, vice chairman of the ECU Board of Trustees, has been named chair of the search committee.

Other members are James Talton, chairman of the ECU Board of Trustees; David Dosser, professor in the College of Human Ecology and faculty athletics representative; John Hudson, member of the ECU Foundation board; Dan Kinlaw, secretary of the ECU Board of Trustees; and George Koonce, former ECU and NFL football player.

Also, Margaret Ward, president of the ECU Alumni Association and a member of the ECU Board of Trustees; Lynn Lane, president of the ECU Foundation; Walter Williams, an alumnus and longtime friend and supporter of the university; Marvin K. Blount III, a member of the ECU Board of Visitors; Angela Marie Sye, a member of the ECU women’s basketball team; and James LeRoy Smith, interim vice chancellor for academic affairs.
