Environmental honor society inducts new members

(Dec. 20, 2002)   —   An East Carolina University staff member and three graduate students were recently inducted into the ECU Chapter of Epsilon Nu Eta, the National Honor Society for the Environmental Health Profession.

In a ceremony earlier this month, William R. Koch, director of Environmental Health and Safety at ECU, was inducted as an honorary member in the organization and was praised for his contributions to environmental protection and to the development of student internships. Honorary membership is based on exemplary character and contributions to the profession. Koch joined ECU in the director’s post in 1996. He also serves as the emergency coordinator for the institution. Since his arrival at ECU he has helped in the development of an environmental management program, a student internship program and a nationally recognized recycling program. He holds an undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Penn State University and a graduate degree in Environmental Engineering and Management from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. 

Also inducted were environmental health students Jennifer Bushnell-Edghill of Charlotte, Amy Klipp of Greenville and Kelly Shook of Newton, N.C. The student members are completing requirements for a Masters Degree in Environmental Health. The primary standards for student membership in the organization are superior academic performance and a commitment to a career in the environmental health field.
