Provost’s lecture series features acclaimed experts

(Sept. 19, 2002)   —   Dr. William Swart, the new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at East Carolina University, has announced a lecture series that will bring three widely recognized authorities to the campus this semester.

The series will open next week with a talk by Dr. Roger Kaufman, director of the Center for Needs Assessment and Planning at Florida State University, who will speak on “Achieving High Impact Results.” His address is at 3 p.m. Monday (Sept. 23) in the A.J. Fletcher Music Center Recital Hall .

Kaufman, internationally known as an expert in strategic planning, regularly lectures on the topic in the United States and other nations.

Other participants in the fall lecture series and their dates are:

Professor Dennis Bushnell, chief scientist for NASA’s Langley Research Center, who will speak on Oct. 21 on his vision of what the world will look like, technologically speaking, in the year 2030.

Dr. Bowen Loftin, a noted authority on visualization and modeling, who will speak Nov. 18 on “From Outer to Inner Space: Adapting Virtual Realities for Astronaut Training to the Medical Domain.” Loftin is professor of electrical and computer engineering and professor of computer science at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. He is also executive director of the Virginia Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis Center.

Swart described all three speakers as “transformational scholars–exceptionally accomplished at thinking outside the box.”
