Interim vice chancellor selected for development

(July 23, 2002)   —   Kathryn Yandell, who has supervised East Carolina University fund-raising activities including major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, advancement services and campaign planning, has been named interim vice chancellor for institutional advancement at the university.

In her new role, Yandell, who has been an associate vice chancellor, will oversee all university development and alumni activities as well as the three fund-raising foundations.

Chancellor William V. Muse, announcing her appointment, said, “I am confident that Kathryn Yandell will provide the leadership we need as we continue laying the groundwork for the major fund-raising campaign that will mark East Carolina’s centennial celebration.” Her extensive experience has prepared her well to assume this position, Muse said.

Yandell, who holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from Queens College, joined ECU in 2001.

Previously she was director of development at St. Mary’s School in Raleigh, director of development at the Health Sciences Library and Morehead Planetarium at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and capital campaign coordinator at the Triangle Hospice in Durham.

She succeeds James L. Lanier, who has become president of the ECU Foundation.
