Pitt County Phi Beta Kappa recognizes top ECU seniors

GREENVILLE, NC   (May 9, 2002)   —   The Pitt County Association of Phi Beta Kappa has recognized some of East Carolina University’s top students for their academic work.

The students, all seniors with at least 80 semester hours completed at ECU, have academic grade point averages ranging between 3.9 and 4.0. They study in the liberal arts and sciences disciplines. Phi Beta Kappa is a national honor society for scholars. The students attended a recent reception that was held in their honor and hosted by Chancellor and Mrs. William Muse. The program included the presentation of engraved Jefferson cups and a special monetary award to Brian Bucklein of Blackfoot, Idaho for his achievement of maintaining a perfect 4.0 average in the study fields of physics and math. Other students honored at the reception included; Mary Ruth Helms of Gatesville, Denise Krebs of Raleigh, Jennifer Ann Kunzman of Clinton, Jessica Tipsord of Buford, Ga., Courtney Edgar of Charlotte, Elizabeth Lee Glasgow of Zebulon, Dustin David Hall of Raleigh, Denisha Harris of Greenville, Madelene Carroll of Dunn, Philip Ferebee of Windsor, Lisa McCaskill of Goldsboro, Jamie Newsom of Fayetteville, and Darlene Perry of Jacksonville.

Members of the ECU faculty formed the Pitt County Association of Phi Beta Kappa in 1964. The association has recognized ECU’s top seniors since 1965. 
Dr. Sylvie Debevec Henning, a professor of foreign languages, is the association’s president.
